Our Story
That was the vision.
Not isolated in separate buildings, different towns.or even multiple counties. Doctors of different disciplines cooperating and combining their unique abilities to do the best job possible. That was the plan 25 years ago when 2 college friends and Chiropractors opened the first clinic of its kind in Farmington. Dr. Stephen Orr and Dr. Andy Collyer, Coyler-a native of Farmington, began the journey which would eventually develop into one of the few clinics of its kind anywhere. It all began on Weber Road. The two worked nearly around the clock to create momentum in the young clinic. The efforts slowly began to pay off and patent after patient began to experience better lives.
The clinic specialized in a newer trend in chiropractic: rehabilitation. The concept of strengthening the spine not only adjusting it. The results were incredible. Two years into the endeavor Dr. Colyer felt his professional calling led him elsewhere. The mission, however continued.
The picture to the right. Dr. Orr on the right, Dr. Coyler on the left and between them is Dr. Joseph Sage.
Dr. Orr managed the clinic and saw patients by himself for the next few years. Then something very very unusual in healthcare occured. He began a friendship with Dr. Scott Van Ness, orthopedic surgeon. The new duo began communicating on mutual patients, this progressed to referring people to each other and eventually practicing in the same building.. Dr. Van Ness with his surgical and medicine options and Dr. Orr with conservative approaches provided expanded benefits for people in need All was well for several years.
During that time Dr. Orr began to specialize in a specific type of back problem: Stenosis. This is where people with arthritic backs can only walk for a short distance before they have to sit down. Then after a short rest the walking can resume for another short distance. He purchased specialized Chiropractic table to help with this condition and the results skyrocketed.
Dr. James Moore Moved to Farmington to establish his family practice in 1988. For 19 years he successfully helped the people of area with Primary care. Over that time he became friends with many of the other local doctors, one happened to be Dr.Orr. In one of their conversations the two discussed joining the two practices. Chiropractic had already been working with Orthopedic specialists and now Family practice joins the team. This was 2007 and we never looked back.
As the practices expanded and the variety of patients who needed help increased the need for a new specialist became obvious. While both doctors have skills in orthopedics and the pain that comes with it, many patients needed more. Particularly as Dr. Orr began seeing more complicated cases.
The void was filled in 2010 when Dr. Fan an expert in pharmacology and pain management joined the practice. Now there was a doctor in the group to handle all the varieties of pain that people suffer from Dr. Fan now enhanced the practice to include epidural steroid injections, nerve ablations, and comprehensive medical management of acute and chronic pain. He has continued to bless the hurting people of the region since then
For several years the doctors practiced in the same building. That building also included several Nurse Practitioners, another Orthopedic surgeon, two podiatrists and part of the building hosted a Physical Therapy Clinic and and Midwest imaging center. To say that they were crowded was an understatement. In 2017 Dr. Moore, Dr. Fan, Dr. Orr, Dr. Medley and the Nurse Practitioners moved across the parking lot to a seperate building with 10,000 square feet all to themselves. FYI; it's still crowded as Mercy leases the other half.
Later in 2017 the office expanded it's services with the addition of a Physical Therapy department that allowed our patients to strengthen their neck and low back with exercises that are safe and effective. Dr. Zilke PT DC resumed practicing In Farmington. He practiced with Dr's Orr and Coyler back in to original clinic in 1996. In addition to excellent therapy for spinal conditions the Physical Therapy department developed separate programs

Chronic Pain perhaps one of the most challenging facets of medicine as there are very few viable solutions, coupled with a glaring social stigma. At Midwest Pain and Spine, I am pleased to have an option to provide our patients with the possibility of relief without the use, or minimization of use, of Narcotic medication.
